How a game works
01 · One person creates a room
Tap Create Room and you get a 4-letter code. Read it out loud — that is the entire setup. Nobody installs anything and nobody makes an account.
02 · Everyone joins on their own phone
Friends open rewindparty.fun, type the code, and they are in. Up to 10 people can play at once, and anyone who shows up late is queued for the next game instead of being locked out.
03 · Hear a song, place it on your timeline
A clip plays. You never see the year — you decide from the sound alone whether it lands before or after the songs already on your timeline. Land it right and the card sticks. Land it wrong and it is discarded, loudly. First player to ten correct songs wins.

Why people keep playing it
The fun is not the trivia — it is the arguing. Someone hears a track they have known their entire life, puts it four years off, and the table erupts. A song that feels unmistakably 80s turns out to be 1979. The generational split does most of the work for you: play a deck across five decades and every person at the table is confident about a completely different stretch of it.
Because it is all in the browser, it also survives the awkward part of game night — nobody has to download anything, find a charger, or make an account while everyone waits. You read out four letters and the game starts. That makes it work as well over a video call as it does around a kitchen table.

- Is Rewind Party free?
- Yes, completely. There is no paid tier, no account, no trial and no card to enter. It is funded by optional donations, not by charging players.
- Do I need to download an app?
- No. Rewind Party runs entirely in the browser on any phone, tablet or laptop. The host taps Create Room and shares a 4-letter code; everyone else types that code into rewindparty.fun.
- How many people can play?
- Between 1 and 10. You can also play solo — the daily puzzle gives every player the same five songs each day, and you get one attempt at each.
- Can we play remotely over video chat?
- Yes. Everyone plays on their own device, so the game works over a video call as long as one person shares the room code. Only the player whose turn it is hears the clip, so nothing is spoiled by lag.
- What music does it use?
- Chart hits from the 1940s through the 2020s, played as YouTube clips. You can pick a Greatest Hits deck, a second deck of hits that peaked just outside the top ten, or a country deck.
- How is this different from Hitster?
- Hitster is a physical box of QR cards that needs its own app and a Spotify account. Rewind Party is the same core idea — place songs on a timeline by release year — but free, browser-based, and with nothing to buy or install.
